The city’s heritage, the region’s wealth
The church of Sant’Agostino, built between the 13th and 14th centuries, has a cusped and pinnacled portal betraying its Gothic origin, while the interior is adorned with dazzling frescoes attributed for the most part to Sienese painter Bartolo di Fredi who worked in Montalcino in the 1380s.
The most important saints and religious figures associated with the Augustinian order are depicted on the walls of the side aisles, while the chancel is decorated with detailed episodes from the Life of St. Augustine.
